Product trial for a WiFi based home security system
The Challenge
A leading global technology brand approached Bryter to support the development of a new WiFi-based home security system. The ambition was to expand beyond connectivity into the smart home category, offering consumers an integrated solution for monitoring and protecting their homes.
Before committing to launch, they needed to understand:
- How intuitive the system was to set up and use
- How well it integrated into everyday home life
- The perceived value of the proposition relative to existing solutions
- Key barriers to adoption, including privacy and trust concerns
Critically, they required evidence of real world usage to inform product refinement and go to market decisions.
Our Approach
Bryter designed a multi-phased concept testing programme grounded in real-life behavioural insight.
In-home trials
We recruited a diverse sample of households, spanning different life stages, property types, and security needs. Participants integrated the system into their homes over a six-week period, enabling observation of genuine usage behaviours rather than hypothetical reactions.
Mixed-method insight generation
To capture a holistic view of the experience, we combined multiple data sources:
- In-depth interviews to explore emotional response, trust and perceived safety
- Quantitative surveys to track usability, engagement and satisfaction over time
- In-app and behavioural data to understand how features were actually used
This approach allowed us to move beyond stated intent to uncover how the product functioned in practice.
The Outcome
Bryter provided the client e with a clear, evidence based roadmap for launch, spanning.
- A communication strategy centred on privacy and data security to build trust from the outset
- Simplification of setup and onboarding journeys to reduce early friction
- Flexible pricing models to appeal to different customer segments
- Enhanced customer support resources to support adoption and ongoing use
As a result, the client was able to move forward with greater confidence, refining both the product and proposition to better align with real consumer needs.
